This new drum magazine is another product from the new, improved ProMag company, which until recently didn’t have the greatest reputation for producing good quality gear. That’s changed, and the the new ProMag DRM-A9 AK-47 Drum Magazine (7.62x39mm) is a case and point. It’s buttressed with a metal reinforced polymer construction that entails high-strength polymer which has metal reinforcements for the front and rear locking lugs as well as the feed lips. It comes with the ProMag Industries lifetime warranty and a feeding device to assist with loading.
This new optic from Primary Arms is called the “7.62×39 300 BLK 3x Compact Scope” but don’t let the name confuse you. It’s ideal for the AK. It uses the highly touted ACSS bdc which offers quick ranging, wind holds and moving target leads. Accurate even up to 400 to 600 yards. (See this video from AKOU using this scope at 500 yards). The etched reticle requires no illumination and there are 12 brightness settings powered by a CR2032 battery. It comes with a standard 1913 Picatinny mount. We’re told it’s quite durable and is designed to handle 7.62 recoil and varied weather conditions. The finish on this scope is excellent it looks a lot more expensive than the $259.99 price point. Comes with a 3-year warranty. We tried it out on the range and loved it. Available directly from Primary Arms.
If you are an AK owner who wants to add an optic without using a side rail, the LithocoreX Adaptive System for AK – AKARS is worthy of consideration. If you don’t have a side rail on your rifle and want an optic, getting this part is even more important! You can mount an optic on certain fore grips but I find placing an optic closer to my eye preferable. It also keeps the front end from getting too top heavy.
There are several of these types of systems on the market but LithocoreX is definitely one of the best. It’s essentially a dust cover with a 1913 Picatinny Rail as placed securely on top. It allows you to retain zero after firing and field stripping.
Built in is a rear sight which also allows for the user to use as an iron sight should the mounted optic fail, or if you simply want to shoot sans optic.
